Top 10 most intelligent animals
As compared to human beings, there are animals who can be as smart as us or even smarter. Yes, believe it or not.
1. Chimps are almost similar to us. Our genomes are at least 98 percent identical. They also use tools, hunt in groups and engage in violence. Pretty similar right? Here’s some more, they also have distinct behaviors and customs and are capable of showing empathy and self awareness. Amazing isn’t it?
2. Dolphins. Dolphins, like humans use tools for survival as well. Alsom they have distinct whistles and clicks that may serve as their way of communication and as dolphin names.
3. Elephants. Like humans, apes and dolphins, they share the behavior of self awareness. A researcher noticed that a female Asian elephant was able to recognize herself in the mirror. They can also be seen consoling family members, helping other species in times of need and even talking using vibrations sensed in their feet.
4. Cephalopods. They have brains like humans do and the amazing thing is, they look similar. They have distinct regions for processing visual and tactile information. They also display sheer curiosity, hatred for boredom and the capacity to use tools. Adding to those abilities, they also have precise muscle control.
5. Crows. Crows are crafty. They fashion tools from twigs, feathers and other bits of debris to get food from hard to reach places. They hone their skills by watching their elders which is a sign of higher intelligence.
6. Squirrels. Deception is one of their skills. Similar to a human right? They can sense and interpret the intentions of others. This was proven when researchers learned in an experiment that squirrels observed the humans stealing their peanuts.
7. Dogs. One thing that makes a dog smart is the fact that they can learn and they have a sense of loyalty. Sometimes, dogs are even more loyal than humans are.
8. Cats. Cats also have the ability to learn, just like the dog. They are solitary animals and are very motivated to survive. They can adapt to any domestic environment which makes them smart and intellectual like humans.
9. Pigs. Do you think they are dirty? Think again. They are perhaps the smartest, cleanest domestic animals known according to some experts. The reason why they roll around mud pools is the fact that they have no sweat glands. Mud is their excuse to stay cool. Their cleverness were measured back in the 90s when they were trained to move a cursor on a video screen with their snouts and they used the cursor to distinguish the difference between scribbles they knew and those they were seeing for the first time. This is way too much faster than the chimps.
10. Humans. Well, that is self explanatory. Right?
